About

Me in the Guadalupe Mountains National ParkSalutations!

I’m Melanie, a metadata librarian.  I coordinate with catalogers, collection curators, and technologists of various stripes to make my library’s resources discoverable online.  I try to step into the users’ shoes as often as possible, to keep things in perspective.

I landed my first library job as an undergraduate in 1992, where I  flipped through shelved art books at the University of Georgia Main Library.  Since then, I have staffed circulation desks, administrative offices, media centers, instructional technology labs, digitization centers, and web services units in academic libraries.  Among the people, collections, and technologies, there is always something interesting to learn!

Aside from libraries, my other passions are museums, parks, outdoor adventures, geocaching, art, historical landmarks, and public spaces in general (not necessarily in that order).  One of my life goals is to visit every national park in the USA.
